Daniel M. Altena, P.E.
Senior Consultant
Dan began his career at Exxon Company, USA as a facilities engineer.
In 1985, he moved to Champlin Petroleum (later Union Pacific Resouces) where he worked
in various aspects of gas production and midstream operations. He
moved to Duke Energy Field Services in 1999 when DEFS purchased
UPR's midstream assets and became a commercial Vice President in
2000 with regional assignments including East
Texas, Austin Chalk, and Offshore. At
UPR, Dan held positions in engineering and construction, business
development, operations management, and engineering management.
He has expertise in economic analysis and decision making,
project development, natural gas contracts, gas production,
gathering, compression and processing, and regulated gas and NGL
transportation. Dan has experience in corporate litigation and in mergers and acquisitions.
He joined Barnes & Click in February 2003.
REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

Mergers and Acquisitions - served
on the leadership team for several transactions involving
gathering systems, regulated pipelines, processing plants, NGL
fractionation, and NGL pipelines. Examples include an asset swap
between Conoco, Mitchell, and DEFS in 1999; the sale of Panola
Pipeline in 2000; and the purchase of Chevron-Texaco's
interest in Discovery in 2002. Experience includes purchase and
sale negotiation, due diligence, and dispute resolution.

Economic Evaluations -
extensive experience in all aspects of economic
evaluation. Evaluations include asset transactions, new business
opportunities, complex scenario reviews, detailed contract
comparisons, facility and gathering systems expansions or
modifications, process control upgrades, and production
acceleration projects.

Commercial and Project Development -
strong record of developing new projects and business
opportunities involving multiple parties. Knowledge of the
engineering, design, and operations aspects as well as the
contractual / business development side of project development
creates value to all parties involved.

Litigation and Dispute Resolution -
experience as a fact / expert witness and company
representative in jury trial and arbitrations.

Gas Gathering and Process Optimization -
extensive experience with gas facility
optimization from the wellhead to the sales point. Specific
experience includes increasing system performance in South and East
Texas to handle new volumes associated with active
drilling and recompletion programs, operational reviews to
identify opportunities, and detailed business and engineering
modeling to quantify and prioritize opportunities.
